What Is DELETE Statement In SQL?

  • The DELETE statement deletes record or row in a database table.
  • In most situations we use WHERE clause with DELETE statement to tell the DELETE statement that which row/record have to be deleted.
  • Always give unique value to WHERE clause such as ID when you use DELETE statement.
  • If you do not use the WHERE clause with DELETE statement all records in database table will be deleted and you can not undo that.

DELETE FROM table_name
WHERE column_name = some_value;

Example-1: Delete a Particular Record

DELETE FROM tbl_users
WHERE id = 901;

Example-2: Delete a Particular Record

DELETE FROM tbl_users
WHERE id = 903 AND surname = "admin";

Example-2: Delete All Records

DELETE FROM tbl_users;
