SELECT Statement In SQL

  • SELECT statement is a SQL clause.
  • SELECT statement is also called retrieval statement.
  • SELECT statement is used to select data from database and stored these data into tables as data sets.
  • SELECT statement can be used in two ways as following.

Syntax – 1: This is used for select only selected┬ácolumn(s) from entire database table.

SELECT db_table_column1, db_table_column2, db_table_column3
FROM db_table;

Example:

SELECT user_name, user_fathers_name
FROM sm_users;

Syntax – 2: This is used for select entire database table.

SELECT *
FROM db_table;

Example:

SELECT *
FROM sm_users;
